01

Use one stable pattern

A useful pattern is PRODUCT-CONTENT-FORMAT-VERSION.ext. For example: WEEKLY-PLANNER-A4-PDF-v1.2.pdf. Put the most meaningful words first because phones truncate the end.

Use letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores. Avoid punctuation that can break links or look unfamiliar after a buyer’s device renames a download.

02

Separate buyer labels from internal records

Buyers need plain language; your archive needs precision. Keep a friendly filename in the delivery package and record the complete checksum, build date, and internal release ID in the manifest.

03

Never ship working-state names

Remove names such as final-final, copy, draft, latest, and new. A version number is less exciting but remains meaningful six months later.
